The securities lending business has weathered the financial crisis in better shape than many expected. However, issues and challenges remain. What has been learned from the unprecedented events of the past two years? What changes have resulted from those lessons, and are these changes temporary or will they permanently affect the business? What are the unresolved issues that remain?
Confirmed speakers: Jerome Nunan, Aviva; Sonja Spinner, Mercer; Ali Kazimi, Deloitte; Joyce Martindale, Railpen.
3.30PM: Coffee break
3.45PM: Panel Two
The industry is at a unique inflexion point. Hedge funds are recovering, performance is improving, but it will likely be 2012 at the earliest before they reach the AUM levels of 2007. There is a more level playing field on the borrowing side of the business and this presents challenges and opportunities. Agents face a number of issues – ranging from the tentative crossover steps into prime brokerage through to the challenge of repeating revenues from last year in the current more difficult environment. For all the talk about Beneficial Owners pulling out of the business, we have seen most return and many new entrants. All of these constituent groups will also have their outlook shaped by potential regulatory changes.
Confirmed speakers: James Templeman, BlackRock;Richard Thompson, Northern Trust; Tim Smith, SunGard; David Little, Rule Financial; Lucinda Guthrie, DealReporter.
4:45PM: Keynote speech: Greg Hands MP, Shadow Treasury Minister
5.15PM- 7:30PM: Drinks reception
